Loved your article! Back in the day, when I worked at zoo/natural history museum, we did an exhibit on the Pleistocene & Mammoths-- it was a delight learning about a subject not well covered in school. The issue for me (Curator of Museum and Education vs the zoo conservationists) was that wishing the human away isn't a viable solution- restoring to a bygone era is also not feasible as it ignores all ecosystems have a developmental process-they change and morph over time--we evolved into a system, are part of a system-and admittedly -have done more than our fair share of damage. But we are apart of and not apart from these systems.
